58 Chevrolet Owner Statistics: Sales, Vehicle Trends and Market Data

Chevrolet owner statistics are best understood through sales, market and vehicle-trend data because primary sources do not generally disclose a count of active Chevrolet owners. The figures below therefore distinguish Chevrolet-specific results from GM-wide measures and broader U.S. industry indicators.

Key Chevrolet Owner Statistics

The strongest available scale indicators come from GM’s U.S. sales reporting. They are useful for understanding the market surrounding Chevrolet, but they are not a count of active private owners.

Measure Period Result
GM U.S. vehicle sales 2024 2.705 million
GM U.S. vehicle sales 2023 2.595 million
GM U.S. market share 2024 16.5%

GM ended 2024 with about 54 days of U.S. inventory. That is a dealer-stock availability estimate, not a measure of owner retention, repeat purchasing or the installed Chevrolet population.

Chevrolet Owner Data by Vehicle Type and Region

GM’s reported vehicle mix shows where the broader portfolio was concentrated in 2024. The segment figures below cover GM, not Chevrolet alone.

GM segment or market 2024 sales Share or comparison
U.S. trucks 1.383 million 31.8% truck market share
U.S. crossovers 1.144 million 12.6% crossover market share

In its reported worldwide markets, GM sold 5.998 million vehicles and held an 8.3% market share in 2024; the filing’s calculation structure excludes Europe and sanctioned countries as described in the report.

GM’s worldwide market share was 6.7% in 2024, down from 7.1% in 2023 and 7.5% in 2022. These worldwide measures include joint-venture sales where specified and should not be read as Chevrolet owner counts.

The 2022–2024 U.S. GM segment series illustrates the market direction relevant to Chevrolet truck, SUV and car shoppers.

Segment 2022 sales 2023 sales 2024 sales
Trucks 1.246 million 1.303 million 1.383 million
Crossovers 814,000 1.068 million 1.144 million
Cars 214,000 224,000 178,000

Truck and crossover sales increased in each year shown, while car sales fell in 2024. GM’s truck market share was 31.4% in 2022, 30.7% in 2023 and 31.8% in 2024; crossover share rose from 10.9% to 12.3% and then 12.6%.

GM’s U.S. car market share moved from 7.6% in 2022 to 7.3% in 2023 and 6.0% in 2024. These are GM segment results, not Chevrolet-specific model registrations.

Chevrolet-specific model indicators add detail to the SUV trend: Trax sales increased 84% in 2024 and the model led the U.S. small-SUV segment for the year. GM also remained the top seller of full-size SUVs for the 50th straight year in 2024.

Chevrolet Electric-Vehicle Adoption Statistics

GM’s electric-vehicle figures show accelerating deliveries, while EPA data provides the industry context for interpreting Chevrolet EV adoption. Neither source reports the share of active Chevrolet owners who drive electric vehicles.

GM’s U.S. EV sales increased 125% in 2024. Fourth-quarter deliveries were 42,000 units, 10,000 more than in the third quarter and nearly twice the second-quarter total; GM ranked as the number-two U.S. EV seller across the second half of 2024.

Chevrolet’s Equinox EV had an 85% increase in fourth-quarter sales from the third quarter of 2024. This is model sales growth, not growth in the total owner population.

For model-year 2024 U.S. light-duty vehicles, battery-electric vehicles represented 7% of all new vehicles, down from 10% in 2023. Within vehicle types, BEVs represented 30% of car SUVs, 4% of truck SUVs and 2% of pickups; PHEVs represented 3% of car SUVs, 4% of truck SUVs and none of the pickups in the EPA summary.

Chevrolet Fuel Economy and Emissions Data

EPA automotive-trend figures describe new U.S. light-duty vehicles and generally use estimated real-world test-cycle results. They are not observed fuel economy for Chevrolet owners or a Chevrolet fleet average.

EPA measure Period Result
Average new-vehicle fuel economy MY2024 27.2 mpg
Change from prior model year MY2023–MY2024 +0.1 mpg
Truck-SUV fuel economy MY2024 25.7 mpg
New-vehicle CO2 emissions MY2023 319 g/mile
Fuel-economy change MY2004–MY2024 +41%
CO2 change MY2004–MY2023 -31%, or 142 g/mile

Average new-vehicle fuel economy improved in 16 of the 20 years through model year 2024. Compared with a fleet excluding BEVs and PHEVs, EPA’s model-year 2024 counterfactual was 1.7 mpg lower, 13 horsepower lower and 72 pounds lighter.

For model year 2023, EVs and PHEVs reduced estimated new-vehicle CO2 emissions by 38 grams per mile and improved fuel economy by 2.2 mpg. From model year 2004 to 2023, new-vehicle fuel economy increased 40%, or 7.8 mpg.

The combined BEV, PHEV and fuel-cell share of production rose from 6.7% in model year 2022 to 11.5% in 2023. EPA projected a 14.8% share for model year 2024 based on manufacturer information before final production and sales data, so that figure is a forecast rather than an observed result.

Chevrolet Ownership Context: Pricing, Fleet Mix and Market Position

Price and sales-channel data help describe the purchase context, but they do not convert directly into a private-owner population. GM’s average fourth-quarter 2024 transaction price was nearly $53,000 per vehicle, above the industry average; the release does not provide an exact industry-average dollar value in the cited statement.

GM reported 4.010 million wholesale vehicle sales worldwide in 2024, including 3.464 million in GM North America and 547,000 in GM International. Wholesale sales are to dealers, distributors and government buyers, so they are not the same as retail owner purchases.

Wholesale measure 2023 2024
GM North America 3.147 million 3.464 million
GM International 621,000 547,000
GM worldwide total, 2024 — 4.010 million

Wholesale vehicle sales outside the United States represented 27.9% of GM’s 2024 wholesale volume. The North American increase and International decrease therefore describe distribution flows, not changes in the number of active Chevrolet households.

GM’s 2024 U.S. vehicle sales were 2.705 million, compared with U.S. industry sales of 16.385 million. GM’s North American market share increased from 15.6% in 2023 to 15.8% in 2024, based on the filing’s rounded reported shares.
