54 GM Statistics on Financial Performance, Sales, EVs and U.S. Impact

GM’s 2024 statistics show a large automotive business with rising revenue, stronger adjusted profitability and higher U.S. vehicle sales, alongside a rapidly expanding but still specifically U.S.-reported electric-vehicle business. The figures below distinguish fiscal-year financial results, calendar-year sales, wholesale from total vehicle sales, company estimates from observed results, and company presentations from audited or regulatory reporting.

GM Automotive operating cash flow reached $23.939 billion in 2024, an increase of 14.9% from 2023. Adjusted automotive free cash flow was $14.045 billion, up 20.4%; both measures use GM’s company-defined or adjusted presentation rather than a simple GAAP subtotal.

GM’s 2024 capital expenditures were $10.7 billion. The annual-report cash-flow reconciliation also presented $6.6 billion of consolidated net income in its 2024 automotive reconciliation, using a rounded presentation.

The fourth quarter materially affected the annual GAAP result. GM said more than $5 billion of fourth-quarter 2024 net income was reduced by special charges, including about $4 billion in non-cash restructuring and China joint-venture impairment charges and $0.5 billion related to stopping funding for the Cruise robotaxi business.

GM U.S. Vehicle Sales and Market Share Data

GM sold 2.7 million vehicles in the United States in 2024, up 4% from 2023 and its highest U.S. total since 2019 according to the company’s sales release. GM estimated its 2024 U.S. light-vehicle market share at 16.5%, so the percentage should be read as a company estimate tied to its stated market-share denominator.

Quarterly and half-year delivery data provide more detail, although total deliveries and retail sales are not identical measures:

  • GM delivered 696,086 total vehicles in the United States in the second quarter of 2024, up 0.6% year over year.
  • GM delivered 1,290,319 total vehicles in the United States during the first half of 2024, down 0.4% year over year.
  • GM delivered 659,601 total vehicles in the United States in the third quarter of 2024, down 2% year over year.
  • GM’s U.S. retail sales rose 3% year over year in the third quarter of 2024; retail sales exclude fleet deliveries.
  • GM’s fourth-quarter 2024 U.S. sales rose 21% year over year.
  • GM ended 2024 with approximately 54 days of vehicle inventory in the United States.

The Q2 and first-half figures are dealer deliveries, while the Q3 total is explicitly not retail-only. These definitions matter when comparing periods or attempting to reconcile quarterly figures with a full-year sales total.

GM Global Wholesale Volume and Regional Performance

GM reports several vehicle-volume concepts. Wholesale sales generally track dealer or distributor sales and exclude vehicles sold by joint ventures, while total vehicle sales include retail, fleet and courtesy-transportation sales and include joint-venture sales on a total-vehicle basis.

GM volume measure 2024 Comparison or scope
North America wholesale sales 3.464 million 3.147 million in 2023
International Operations wholesale sales 547,000 621,000 in 2023
Wholesale sales across North America and international operations 4.010 million 3.768 million in 2023
Total worldwide wholesale vehicle sales 6.001 million 6.189 million in 2023
Wholesale sales in GM markets 5.998 million 6.187 million in 2023

The 4.010 million wholesale figure and the 6.001 million worldwide total use different scopes, so they should not be treated as interchangeable totals. GM reported that 27.9% of wholesale vehicle-sales volume was generated outside the United States in 2024, with the wholesale definition and joint-venture limitation applying.

GM’s 2024 Form 10-K reported North American industry sales of 20.3 million units and presented GM’s U.S. sales at 16.5% market share. A separate GMNA table included 2.359 million units in its 2024 annual total and 424,000 units in the corresponding prior-year comparison row; those table-specific figures are not a total-company measure and retain the table’s denominators.

GM’s EV figures in this dataset refer to company-reported U.S. sales or deliveries, not global EV adoption or all GM vehicles. On that defined basis, U.S. EV sales increased 125% in calendar year 2024 compared with 2023, while fourth-quarter EV sales increased 50% year over year.

Period GM U.S. EV measure Reported result
Q3 2024 Total EV deliveries 32,095 vehicles
Q3 2024 vs Q3 2023 EV delivery growth +60%
Q3 2024 vs Q2 2024 Sequential EV delivery growth +46%
Q4 2024 EV sales 42,000 vehicles
Q4 2024 vs Q3 2024 Difference in EV sales 10,000 vehicles higher

GM said its Q4 2024 EV sales were nearly twice its Q2 2024 total, using the company’s qualifier rather than an exact ratio. GM also described itself as the **No.

2 U.S. EV seller in the second half of 2024**, a company-reported competitive ranking.

The Q3 and Q4 figures use different wording—deliveries for Q3 and sales for Q4—so they indicate direction and scale but are not necessarily identical accounting measures. Chevrolet, Buick, GMC and Cadillac Statistics

GM’s 2024 U.S. brand results show growth across the four named brands, with the supplied measures reported mainly as year-over-year percentage changes and company-described record periods.

Brand or model 2024 U.S. result Period or comparison
Chevrolet +1.5% sales Full year vs 2023; highest since 2019 according to GM
Chevrolet Trax +84% sales Full year vs 2023; led small-SUV segment according to GM
GMC +9% sales Full year vs 2023; best year ever according to GM
Buick +10% sales Full year vs 2023; highest total since 2021 according to GM

Quarterly brand and model results included Chevrolet sales up 17% year over year in Q4 2024, GMC sales up 33%, Buick Envista sales up 57%, and Cadillac sales up 35%. Chevrolet Equinox EV unit sales increased 85% from Q3 to Q4 2024, while the Trax’s full-year sales increased 84% and GM said it led the small-SUV segment.

These are company-reported U.S. sales-growth and segment claims. They should not be generalized to global brand volume or interpreted as absolute unit totals where GM supplied only percentages.

GM Workforce, Investment and U.S. Economic Footprint

GM’s public impact pages describe a substantial U.S. workforce and economic presence, but these figures are company presentations rather than a single dated audited headcount table.

  • GM says it employs more than 90,000 workers in the United States; the current company presentation was accessed in 2026 and uses “over 90,000.”
  • GM reported $11.7 billion in taxable wages paid to its U.S. team in calendar year 2024.
  • GM says it invested $60 billion in the United States from 2020 through the period covered by its current impact page.
  • GM’s U.S. operations page presented a $50 billion direct contribution to the U.S. economy in calendar year 2024.
  • GM’s U.S. operations page says the company represents 1 in 10 U.S. autoworkers; the underlying workforce denominator is not shown in the page excerpt.
  • GM’s U.S. operations page says GM received S&P Global Mobility’s Overall Loyalty to Manufacturer award for 10 consecutive years; this is an award-duration claim, not an owner-loyalty percentage.
  • GM reported that its U.S. hourly employees received more than $640 million in profit sharing for 2024 performance, paid or reported in 2025.

The $11.7 billion taxable-wage figure carries a source caveat: GM says some states use unemployment-income data where state income tax is not collected. The investment, economic-contribution, workforce-share and loyalty figures likewise retain the definitions and presentation limits stated on GM’s pages.
